The sound is great and the intonation is accurate. The tone response is easily in all registers. The mute fits perfectly in my Lätzsch trombone. The same is true for the cup mute!

I have been using my new tool4winds straight mute for 4 weeks now, and it is just what I’ve been looking for these many years.
I have at least 8 different straight mutes, and every one has a spot in the low register that doesn’t center well. Usually it’s a note or two, sometimes a whole part of the register. With my new mute, all the notes speak, center well, and it provides me with the assurance
that wherever I go on the horn, and whatever dynamic called for, it will not be a problem. I had the wood version that came out before this, and it is also very good. The only issue I had with it, was that the sound is a softer, warmer sound, and while very nice, did not match the tenors, or always fit what I needed for certain kinds of music. We recently played Copland’s Billy the Kid Ballet music, and the Gun Fight section has some fortissimo low F’s that were always a concern.

The new mute not only makes centering and popping these out not a problem, it gets the right snarl for it. I’m very glad to replace my closet full of mutes with just this one, I only wish I’d had it years ago. It would have saved me a lot of money, and musical head ache!
